Valentin Hajdinjak stated that acquiring the necessary equipment is a prerequisite for forming a medium battalion combat group and upholding commitments made to NATO. Speaking about the new government’s plans to purchase eight-wheelers at the NATO summit in Ankara, Hajdinjak noted that while the market offers are substantial, acquiring everything immediately is not feasible. He explained that experts and collaborators within the Ministry of Defense are currently evaluating all available options.
The goal of this assessment is to secure the best equipment while minimizing expenditure, thereby enabling the fulfillment of the capability goals agreed upon with NATO. According to the minister, efforts are underway to expedite this process. Hajdinjak also expressed disappointment regarding the previous administration’s handling of the purchase.
He mentioned that the prior government had abandoned the acquisition of armored vehicles but failed to identify an alternative solution. This shortfall, he stated, has consequently hindered the new government’s ability to meet its commitment to NATO. The focus remains on developing comprehensive plans to successfully execute the necessary purchases.
