They discovered a tunnel with a chamber, a lift and a railway for smuggling hashish to Europe

During a raid on a warehouse, authorities discovered a substantial tunnel exceeding ten meters in length. The tunnel incorporated a pit and a dedicated storage room for pallets, alongside a complex railway system complete with wagons. An underground elevator was also part of the intricate design, intended for operation with minimal human involvement.

Spanish police executed a successful operation, seizing a significant quantity of illicit substances. A total of seventeen tons of drugs were recovered, including 228 kilograms of hashish and 88 kilograms of cocaine. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics amounted to 1.4 million euros, alongside 66 communication devices and fifteen luxury vehicles.

Twenty-seven individuals were apprehended in connection with this operation. Spain serves as a primary entry point for hashish imports, typically transported to Europe via fast boats originating from Ceuta. Ceuta, situated across the Strait of Gibraltar, borders Morocco, and, along with Melilla, forms the sole land border between the European Union and Africa.

The strategic location of Melilla, surrounded by Morocco, makes it a crucial point for illicit activity.
