Beyoncé further revealed that this wasn’t a singular instance of Jay-Z using his hairstyle to convey a message. For over eight years, he intentionally cultivated his hair growth to positively influence his daughter, Blue Ivy. According to Beyoncé, the primary motivation behind the extended growth was to bolster Blue Ivy’s self-esteem by mirroring her own hair.
“I always thought it was a great reason why Jay-Z let his hair grow,” she stated, “that it was to show her that her hair is similar to his.” This gesture, she noted, stemmed from Blue Ivy’s age at the time – approximately five years old – and a desire to connect her appearance with her father’s.
