KPK Concludes Investigation into Allegations of Ministerial Appointments
The Slovenian Anti-Corruption Agency (KPK) has announced the closure of an investigation following a thorough review of several applications detailing allegations of conflicts of interest involving high-level officials. The investigation centered on concerns surrounding the appointment of Franc Matoz as minister. The KPK examined applications that raised questions regarding the relationships between Matoz and Prime Minister Janez Janša, who initially proposed Matoz for the ministerial role.
Specifically, the investigation considered claims of close friendships and business connections between the two men. According to KPK findings, while the Prime Minister possesses the constitutional and statutory authority to propose ministerial candidates, the agency determined that Janez Janša did not fully adhere to relevant legal procedures in his recommendation of Franc Matoz for the position. The KPK’s assessment concluded that the proposed action did not align with the stipulations outlined in the Government Act.
The investigation included consideration of the business dealings of Branko Zlobko and Franci Matoz. The KPK’s decision to close the case reflects the absence of evidence demonstrating a violation of the law on integrity and prevention of corruption in this particular instance.
