Mountain huts are meant for shelter: ‘They are not tourist accommodation’

Many cases are tragic. Last year, the association recorded a sad record of 50 deaths in the mountains and in difficult-to-reach areas. “Slippery conditions and lack of knowledge of the terrain are still the leading reasons for accidents.

The next two reasons are poor physical fitness and equipment, which individuals can influence with proper prevention,” said the president of the Slovenian Mountaineering Association Gregor Dolinar at the presentation of the season. He warned all hikers about proper preparation, suitable route selection, appropriate equipment and clothing, weather check and the fact that many forget to inform their families about the planned route and to charge their mobile phone fully, where the newer mountain map still serves for orientation. One of the basic rules is also that we go to the mountains with a group, at least in pairs.

Mountain rescue on the other hand is a profession, and it is not a sport.
