Janša Elected as Slovenia’s Prime Minister Following Parliamentary Vote
Ljubljana, Slovenia – Janez Janša was elected as the Prime Minister of Slovenia on May 22nd, marking completion of the process just two months following the general elections. The decision was made by the National Assembly (DZ) after the submission of his proposed ministerial team. Last Thursday, Janša presented a list of 15 candidates for the 16th Slovenian government to the national assembly.
The proposed ministerial team reflects the composition of the governing coalition, with the SDS securing the largest share – seven ministerial seats. The National Assembly (NSi) will hold four, the Democrats three, and Focus one. The Social Liberal Party (SLS) has not appointed a ministerial candidate.
The team comprises ten men and five women, though several candidates possess prior experience within ministerial roles or previous government service. Before formal confirmation at a forthcoming plenary session, each candidate must undergo presentations to the DZ’s governing body. Initial plans for the first eight-member ministerial team have been outlined.
This election concludes a period of transition following the general elections and establishes Janša’s leadership of the new Slovenian government.
