City to Undertake Renovation of Pražakova Street to Create Enhanced Public Space
The City Municipality’s Department of Economic Activities and Transport is commencing a renovation project on Pražakova Street, aiming to transform the area into a more pedestrian-friendly and sustainable public space. Details were outlined at a press conference today by Mateja Demšič, head of the Sustainable Mobility and Public Space Department. The renovation will focus on the section of Pražakova Street between Ofi Square and Pražakova Street.
Initial efforts will involve painting the road surface to clearly demarcate a new bicycle lane and reduce traffic speed. Significant expansion of pedestrian areas is planned, alongside the installation of benches, bicycle stands, and additional greenery. “Green islands,” small areas of vegetation, will be incorporated along the street’s edges.
Moving forward, the permanent design will maintain the street’s existing character while implementing measures to calm traffic flow and improve pedestrian safety. This includes partially narrowing the road surface. The overall goal is to create a safer and more accessible public space for residents and visitors.
The project reflects the city’s commitment to sustainable mobility and the development of vibrant public areas.
