Janković wants to prevent the burial of victims of the revolution: There is no space at Žale

Janković Expresses Opposition to Current Legislative Discussions

Ljubljana – Mayor Zoran Janković voiced strong opposition to the ongoing debate in a special session of the DZ concerning a currently proposed bill. Speaking at a press conference today, Janković stated he is “absolutely against” the legislation. He anticipates its passage but expressed uncertainty regarding the specific actions that will follow.

“Ljubljana will remain a heroic city, a city of heroes, free,” Janković emphasized, asserting his commitment to preserving the city’s character. He reiterated the importance of distinguishing between those who resisted Nazism and Fascism and those who “signed the Nazi oath.”

The Mayor underscored the deservingness of a funeral for the victims of the revolution, citing it as a matter of “piety.” He noted that various governments have previously presented burial proposals, but the current situation is characterized by “complete politicization.” Notably, the draft legislation was not invited to participate in today’s meeting. Representatives from the SDS, Democrats, NSi, SLS, and Focus were present at the press conference.

Janković clearly wants to ensure the city’s future remains secure and free.
