Explosion in a Chinese mine: at least 90 people dead

The explosion occurred on Friday evening in the Liushenyu mine in Shanxi province, according to the Xinhua state news agency. At the time of the explosion, 247 miners were underground, most of whom were brought to the surface by morning. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for “unwavering efforts” to provide assistance to the injured and search for survivors, and demanded a thorough investigation of the accident.
