270,000 people evacuated due to fires

French President Emmanuel Macron has deployed approximately 500 soldiers to assist in firefighting efforts. Additionally, plans are underway to activate the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft, which has the capacity to drop 20 tonnes of water. According to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, France has recorded a historic level of burning this year, with nearly 98,000 hectares of land affected.

In the southwest region of the country, firefighters have managed to combat the fires, resulting in the destruction of over 32,000 hectares of land and the loss of at least 100 buildings. Authorities have indicated that the fire in the Gironde department is no longer exhibiting characteristics of a convective fire—a type that generates air currents due to its own heat and accelerates spread. However, the Spanish press agency EFE reports that stronger afternoon winds could potentially worsen the situation.

The deployment of military resources, such as the A400M aircraft, is being coordinated to manage the extensive damage.
