A 16-year-old surfer was bitten by a sea dog while swimming off the coast of Middleton, South Australia, on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred approximately 80 kilometers south of Adelaide. Oliver Tokic-Bensley was in the water for around ten minutes, roughly 100 meters from the shore, when he was attacked.
According to Tokic-Bensley, a sea dog surfaced and “pulled me off” his surfboard. He described the encounter as a surprise attack, stating, “He attacked me from behind.”
Tokic-Bensley was able to dislodge the sea dog and quickly swam back to shore. He recounted seeing the animal before returning to his surfboard to secure it.
Another surfer experienced a similar encounter earlier in the week. A surfer who wished to remain anonymous described being pulled off his board by a sea dog in South Australia. He stated the animal “pulled me off” and brought him onto the beach.
A photograph of a sea dog was taken in the shallow water near the location of the incident. Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the specific species of sea dog involved or any recommendations for beachgoers.
