Agreement Reached to Remove Beagles from Ridglan Farms Research Center

Following weeks of negotiations, Big Dog Ranch, in partnership with the Center for Humane Economy, has reached an agreement to purchase 1,500 beagles from Ridglan Farms. The beagles were previously housed at the research center, a facility that has faced scrutiny regarding animal welfare practices. Lauree Simmons, president and founder of Big Dog Ranch, stated, “After an hour they were removed from the center, and they started coming to us to get attention.

I just know they know they are safe.” The terms of the agreement remain confidential. The acquisition follows previous attempts by activists to secure the release of the beagles. Last month, protests occurred outside the facility, resulting in intervention by law enforcement who utilized pepper spray to manage the crowd following an unsuccessful attempt to breach the premises.

Notably, in March, a group of protesters gained access and removed 30 beagles from the research center. This latest agreement marks a significant step in relocating the beagles to a new environment. Details regarding the animals’ immediate care and future placement are currently being finalized.
