An incident involving a young girl occurred at an indoor swimming pool in Sestri Levante on Wednesday. The family, who are from Milan, reportedly visit the resort area annually. Italian media sources reported that the accident took place in the shallow indoor pool.
According to reports, the girl became entangled when her hair became caught in the pool’s drain. Despite immediate assistance provided by those present, efforts to remove both the girl and the hair from the water were unsuccessful. The 11-year-old was subsequently transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Tragically, the girl passed away overnight at the intensive care unit of the Gaslini pediatric hospital in Genoa following the accident. In the aftermath, the hospital confirmed that the parents had voluntarily agreed to donate their daughter’s organs. The hospital issued a statement emphasizing that it would withhold further information out of respect for the privacy of the child and her family.
