BioSistemika has been recognized as the winner of the Podim Pitching Competition, a regional event held in Maribor. The company secured the title for the best startup among 220 participants representing Central Europe and the Balkans. BioSistemika’s winning solution, named Datana, introduces an innovative technology designed for the long-term archival of digital data.
The core of the technology involves storing digital information within synthetic DNA structures. This method purportedly allows data to remain viable for millennia, addressing growing concerns regarding digital data preservation over extended timeframes. Furthermore, the system is claimed to provide robust protection against potential data loss and external intrusions.
The competition itself featured a broad scope of innovation, having received applications from over a thousand startups. Following multiple rounds of rigorous selection, five finalists were ultimately chosen from the Czech Republic, among whom BioSistemika was recognized. The award highlights advancements in data storage solutions, positioning synthetic biology as a potential answer to the challenge of digital permanence.
By utilizing DNA, the technology aims to create an archival medium that surpasses the limitations of current magnetic or solid-state storage methods, offering a potentially stable repository for critical information across vast stretches of time.
