Bear Encounter Reported Near St. Anton

A second close encounter between a human and a bear has been reported in the Obala region, occurring near St. Anton.

The incident, which occurred while a citizen was walking their dog near Cerje, prompted a response from local authorities. According to reports, the individual heard sounds emanating from the bear during the encounter and subsequently retreated from the forest alongside their dog. The citizen immediately contacted the Police, who subsequently contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The individual involved expressed concern that a different outcome might have occurred if the encounter had involved a female bear with cubs. He believes the presence of young cubs would have significantly altered the situation. The Hunting Association Koper has confirmed that two bear encounters have been reported in the area recently.

Prior to this latest incident, observers had reported sightings of a bear in Bonini during the summer months. These observations represent an increase in bear activity in the region. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and advise residents to exercise caution when walking in forested areas.
