President Pirc Musar Criticizes New Government’s Actions Following Inauguration
In a statement following two weeks in power, President Nataša Pirc Musar has expressed concerns regarding the actions of the new government. She has criticized what she perceives as a departure from policies aimed at fostering a “better country and a more mature society.”
The president’s primary criticism centers on the government’s approach to independent institutions. Specifically, she raised concerns about potential alterations or integration of investigative bodies, referencing discussions surrounding the reorganization of the SKOK prosecutor’s unit.
While initial proposals included this restructuring, the President clarified that the anti-corruption commission was not part of the current plans. Minister for Economy, Labour and Sport, Anže Logar, addressed the situation, stating, “These issues were probably already resolved earlier, now the finalities are real. But it is also necessary to prepare the explanation of each article separately, so it takes some time.”
Logar indicated a desire to find “common ground” with the new government moving forward.
The comments highlight an early point of contention between the executive and legislative branches following the formation of the government.
