KPK Proposes Amendments to Integrity Act Amid Persistent Corruption Losses
The Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (KPK) estimates annual corruption-related losses at 3.5 billion euros, yet concrete political action following its findings remains limited. In response, the KPK has initiated proposals directed towards newly elected Members of Parliament aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption. According to Tina Divjak, a representative from the KPK, the initiative stems from a long-standing effort to improve the Act on Integrity and Prevention of Corruption.
“As the central body for the prevention of corruption, we have prepared numerous amendments to the Act on Integrity and Prevention of Corruption,” Divjak stated in the 24UR ZVEČER program. “For several years, we have been striving to change it in order to be more effective, but there has been no political will so far.”
Key proposals include stricter sanctions, with a specific consideration for prohibiting individuals deemed to have a lack of integrity from holding public office. The KPK believes these changes are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of the nation’s efforts in preventing corruption.
The KPK’s actions underscore ongoing concerns regarding the scale of corruption and the need for greater accountability within governmental structures. The proposals represent a direct appeal for political support in bolstering the country’s preventative measures against corruption.
