Weber did not want to explain the details, saying that it was a matter of internal group affairs, but he said that the group’s president discussed Grims’ behavior on Monday. Euractiv reported on Monday that the EPP was considering sanctions against the MEP and that he could even be expelled from the political group. Weber also emphasized at the press conference on the sidelines of the plenary session of the European Parliament that Grims does not respect the basic principles of the group, which are pro-European orientation, support for Ukraine and respect for the rule of law.
He also said that the EPP group does not support the meeting that Grims attended because it is his individual behavior. Branko Grims asked the MEP’s office for a response to the announced sanctions on Monday.
