Milan Balažic, the mayor of Moravče, was detained following a series of events that began last week with a police investigation. Authorities secured Balažic’s municipal building and private house with police tape after executing a search warrant on Thursday. The investigation centers around allegations that Balažic utilized his position for personal gain.
The primary focus of the investigation involves Termit, a company operating a sandpit in the area. Investigators allege Balažic facilitated a change to the municipal spatial plan, enabling Termit to continue operations. According to the order, this arrangement involved Termit’s director hiring Balažic’s partner, Nina Krajnik, who previously ran for president in 2022.
Furthermore, the company reportedly provided the couple with a new kitchen valued at 26,000 euros. Balažic has publicly denied all accusations. He maintains that the circumstances surrounding his detention are unfounded.
