War on the doorstep of Europe: How do the parties view Slovenia’s role in the Ukrainian conflict?

The predictions made by Russian President Vladimir Putin materialized on February 24th, 2022. This event irrevocably disrupted the established security framework across Europe, dismantling the comforting assumption that conflict within the continent was a historical anomaly. Over the subsequent four years, attempts to find solutions to the ongoing conflict have diminished considerably.

Remarkably, a consensus has emerged among several political parties. The Democrats, the Freedom Movement, SDS, SD, NSI, Resni.ca, Prerod, Levica, and Pirates, all share a fundamental agreement. They unequivocally recognize the war in Ukraine as an illegitimate assault on a sovereign nation perpetrated by Russia.

However, this unified stance contrasts sharply with the divisions within the European Union and Slovenia’s own approach. Within Anže Logar’s party, the prevailing view is that this represents a ruthless and unjustified Russian aggression, a position they vehemently denounce. The situation highlights the complex and varied perspectives surrounding this devastating war.
