Vučić Claims Significant Trump Support in Serbia Ahead of 2024 Election
Belgrade – Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has stated that approximately three-quarters of Serbians expressed support for Donald Trump during the 2024 United States presidential election. Vučić asserted that Trump garnered the highest level of support for any candidate in Europe, surpassing even traditionally Republican states within the United States. Speaking in an interview, Vučić acknowledged surprise at media reports highlighting other European nations as key strongholds for trump.
He emphasized that the fervent backing within Serbia was readily apparent throughout the election campaign. According to Vučić, three factors contributed to this strong support. Firstly, a desire for a revised relationship between the United States and Serbia was prevalent, stemming from a perception of American intervention in Serbian affairs over the past three decades.
Secondly, a yearning for a more independent stance from the U.S. fueled the sentiment. Finally, Vučić indicated a belief that Trump represented a departure from established political norms.
