‘Trump has a good chance of becoming the second Stalin of European integration’

Elmar Brok is considered one of the most influential and recognizable faces of European politics in recent decades. The German CDU politician has been a Member of the European Parliament for 40 years, from 1979 to 2019, where he was among the key architects of European foreign policy, the enlargement of the European Union and European integration. He has long headed the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, participated in the negotiations on key European treaties from Amsterdam to Lisbon and was considered one of the main advocates of closer European integration and a stronger common European foreign policy.

In European political circles, he was considered one of the most experienced interlocutors for relations with Russia, the USA, China and NATO, and he also participated in the shaping of the European constitutional order and later in the direction of the European Union.
