A tragic accident occurred during the superbike class competition held in Brno this past Saturday. According to reports from the Auto-Moto Association of Slovenia (AMZS), the incident involved Austrian racer Philipp Steinmayr and Romanian racer Adrian Rus. Despite immediate medical intervention following the high-speed collision, both riders succumbed to severe injuries.
The severity of the accident prompted the organizers of the Alpe Adria Championship to cancel all remaining scheduled races. The event on Saturday, July 11, had initially featured qualifying sessions and the first of the two races contributing to the overall competition standings. The terrible incident reportedly stemmed from issues at the start of the race, where a racer collided with another at extreme velocity.
In response to the fatalities, the European Motorcycling Association (FIM Europe) issued an official statement. The statement emphasized respecting the families of the deceased, and consequently, declined to release the names of the victims’ families. The accident marks a deeply regrettable turn for the championship, leading to the immediate cessation of further racing activities in Brno.
