Tibetan activist burned himself in protest in front of the UN headquarters

Emergency services were dispatched by the New York Police Department around 6:30 PM after responding to a man found with severe burns across his body. According to reports, the individual was transported to a hospital but was subsequently pronounced deceased. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man.

Social media videos circulating online document an incident that occurred on First Avenue, located opposite the UN headquarters. The footage shows a man carrying a Tibetan flag before a fire broke out. Bystanders reportedly extinguished the blaze using fire extinguishers.

Prior to the incident, separate video evidence captured the man addressing an audience, where he called for unity among Tibetans in their pursuit of independence. During his address, he issued warnings regarding Chinese policies, specifically citing concerns over the perceived threat to Tibetan identity, culture, and language.
