Civic Initiative to Announce Signature Count Following Ljubljana Referendum Campaign
Representatives of the civil initiative will present official figures on the number of signatures collected during the referendum campaign in Ljubljana on Friday morning. The press conference is scheduled for an early time and will take place outside the Ljubljana Town Hall. The initiative, launched to prevent changes to the Ljubljana City Municipality’s traffic regulation ordinance, believes the total number of signatures gathered, irrespective of the referendum’s outcome, reflects a lack of confidence in the municipality’s policy design and execution.
The signature collection period concluded today. The initiative asserts that at least 11,500 signatures were required to be gathered, fulfilling the criteria outlined in the Local Self-Government Act. This legislation mandates a municipal referendum when at least five percent of voters within Ljubljana request one.
The Ljubljana Municipality initiated the signature collection process on April 24th. The results of the referendum will determine the future of the traffic regulation ordinance. The initiative’s representatives will detail the final count of signatures following the press conference.
