Illegal Distillery Uncovered in Prosecco Region During Quality Control Operation

Treviso, Italy – Authorities in Susegana, in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza and the Central Inspectorate for Quality Control and Combating Fraud in Agro-Food Products (ICQRF), have uncovered an illegal distillery operating within the Prosecco region. The discovery followed a road inspection that revealed a vehicle transporting 750 liters of wine lacking the necessary documentation for product traceability. ICQRF subsequently conducted an inspection of the associated winery, leading to the seizure of 110 liters of distilled spirits and 50 liters of liqueur.

These products were found concealed within a tool shed and lacked the required state seal and mandatory labeling. Furthermore, investigators discovered an additional 11,000 liters of white wine exceeding permitted levels. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to safeguard the integrity of Italian wine production.

The Guardia di Finanza and ICQRF continue to monitor the sector, ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations. This investigation underscores the importance of traceability within the wine industry and the vigilance of regulatory bodies.
