Slovenian National Team Defender Reflects on Friendly Match Against Cyprus
Following a 1-1 draw against Cyprus in Stožice, Slovenian national team defender Vanja Drkušić commented on the team’s performance. Drkušić, who scored the equalizing goal in the friendly match and made his national team debut, acknowledged concerns shared by experts and the public regarding the team’s display. “There were too many technical errors, which made it very difficult for us to organize the game,” Drkušić stated.
He recognized that several players were participating in their first national team match and that adaptation would require time. “It was known that some players were in the chosen team for the first time,” he added. Despite the draw, Drkušić highlighted a second-half effort to control the opponent.
“In the second half, we managed to squeeze the opponent, but it was a pity that we did not score another goal,” he concluded. Drkušić, a member of Russian national champion Zenit St. Petersburg, expressed his support for the team’s coach’s decisions.
The overall assessment indicated a need for continued development and cohesion within the team.
