Slavenka Drakulić, born in Rijeka in 1949, has died, leaving behind a significant legacy in Croatian and international literature. She earned degrees in comparative literature and sociology from the Philosophical Faculty in Zagreb, and throughout her career, her work appeared in publications including Start, Danas, and NIN, as well as numerous foreign media outlets. Drakulić’s literary contributions began with her first non-fiction book, Deaths of Feminism, released in 1984, followed by her novel Fear Holograms in 1987.

In her final days, her latest book, Why I Never Learned to Cook, was published by Croatian publisher Fraktura. Slavenka Drakulić is recognized as a key figure in introducing feminist perspectives into public discourse within Croatia. Her writings have been translated into dozens of languages, with some also being published by the American publisher Penguin.
