Bear Spotted Swimming in Kupa River, Raising Tourist Interest
A bear was observed swimming in the Kupa River near a campsite in Slovenia, prompting excitement among visitors and local authorities. The animal was filmed returning to the forest after spending time in the water. This sighting follows a previous encounter last week, when Dutch tourists captured footage of the bear exploring the riverbank.
“They were so excited,” stated Peter Madronič, referencing the tourists. “They came from the Netherlands, and it doesn’t happen there. They didn’t really realize what they saw; they thought it was a domesticated bear that walks just like an attraction.”
The bear, believed to have originated from the Croatian side of the Kupa River, traversed approximately 200 meters along the Slovenian bank before returning to the Croatian forest.
Authorities speculate the bear was drawn by the scent of recently grilled food. “He was in the forest on the Croatian side, where there are no people and where he feels safe,” Madronič explained. Since the initial sighting, the bear has been filmed returning to the same campsite, continuing to observe the area.
Local wildlife officials are monitoring the situation and assessing the bear’s behavior. Further investigation is underway to understand the bear’s movements and ensure the safety of both the animal and the public.
