The supercomputer chose the favorite of the World Cup: Spain has the most chances

The 2026 World Cup, expanding to a record 48 teams, will be held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11th to July 19th. This marks a significant departure from previous tournaments. Prior to the event, an Optin supercomputer conducted 10,000 simulations to predict the most likely contenders for victory.

According to these simulations, Spain is currently considered the most likely team to win the competition, achieving a projected victory rate of 16.1 percent. The supercomputer’s analysis also identified Spain as the only team with over half the predicted chances of advancing to the quarterfinals, achieving this in 39 percent of the simulations. Furthermore, the model forecasts Spain reaching the final in 25.6 percent of the simulated outcomes.

The expanded format of the tournament, featuring a larger pool of teams, introduces a new level of complexity to predictive analysis. The supercomputer’s projections offer a preliminary assessment of potential outcomes, but the actual competition is expected to be highly unpredictable.

  1. It’s interesting to see the computer’s prediction, but let’s see if Spain can actually deliver!
