The referendum in Ljubljana despite the withdrawal of the disputed parking order

On July 12th, citizens of Ljubljana will go to the third municipal referendum since 2000. This is also the first one triggered by such a large-scale signature campaign. Civil society, unhappy with the municipal parking policy, collected more than 14,000 signatures in support of the referendum.

The initiators oppose the decree that would re-regulate parking in Ljubljana’s neighborhoods by introducing paid parking and residents’ permits. Although the Ljubljana City Council repealed the decree last week, the initiators insist on the referendum. “We have removed the decree.

We have done what the civil initiative demands. They want a referendum,” Ljubljana’s mayor Zoran Janković said last week. In the initiative CILJ, they reply that they do not intend to withdraw the referendum.
