The Slovenian meteorological service issues advisories regarding elevated temperatures expected over the coming days. The peak heat is forecast for Sunday, June 28th, and Monday, June 29th. According to the service, afternoon temperatures in the lowlands are predicted to reach between 34 and 39 degrees Celsius.
The advisory warns that the intense heat will escalate throughout the afternoon, initially affecting the southwest region, particularly Gorizia and the Vipava Valley, before expanding to central and southeastern Slovenia. Consequently, the highest (red) level warning has been issued for three specific areas, while the northern region has received a second-highest (orange) level warning. The service warns that these heightened weather alerts are anticipated to ease by the middle of next week.
Following this period of intense heat, there is an increased possibility of localized thunderstorms. In providing context, the report noted that the current Slovenian temperature record of 38.4°C was recorded in Dobličah near Črnomelj today. Furthermore, the absolute summer record remains set at 40.8°C, recorded on August 8, 2013, at the airport.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant regarding the changing weather patterns through the remainder of June.
