Janša Government Formation Talks Focus on Party Share and Key Personnel
Ongoing negotiations to form a new government in Slovenia are centering on a proposed distribution of ministerial portfolios among the dominant political parties. Despite statements from SDS leader Janez Janša asserting that he does not constitute the entirety of the government, several indicators point towards a specific power-sharing arrangement. According to an existing agreement, the SDS party is slated to hold eight ministries, while the NSi party would receive five and the Deželni kandidat (Democrats) three.
Current discussions are reportedly focused on a by-name distribution of responsibilities. The SDS party is reportedly considering Andrej Šircl as a candidate for the Ministry of Finance, a position he previously held within the previous Janša government. Zvone Černač is also being discussed for roles within the infrastructure sector, and the former Minister of the Interior, Aleš Hojs, is linked to potential involvement with the environment ministry.
Furthermore, Anže Logar, formerly the Minister of the Interior, is being considered for a position aligned with his stated goals of combating corruption. These discussions reflect the SDS’s continued influence within the emerging government structure.

It’s concerning to see the continued focus on personnel over addressing the country’s pressing issues.
