Gold Discovery in Bannewitz Raises Ownership Questions
Bannewitz – A gold plate was discovered in the municipal green area of Bannewitz last October by a municipal employee during routine maintenance, according to Mayor Heiko Wersig. Following the discovery, the municipality received a significant number of inquiries from individuals claiming ownership of the gold. Attempts to verify ownership proved unsuccessful.
Numerous citizens contacted the Bannewitz authorities, asserting that the gold plates belonged to them. However, none were able to provide conclusive proof, such as receipts or stamped serial numbers, to substantiate their claims. The discovery occurred near a municipal water well in Bannewitz.
The statutory period for individuals to formally prove ownership of the gold expired on Friday. As a result, the Bannewitz municipality is now authorized to determine the future disposition of the recovered gold. Mayor Wersig stated that the municipality will carefully consider its options following the expiration of the ownership verification timeframe.
