Ivanka Mežan, born in Maribor in 1926, enjoyed a distinguished career spanning over several decades in the Slovenian theatre. Her professional journey began in 1944 with a performance at the Slovene National Theatre in the liberated territory of Črnomelj, following which she enrolled at the Ljubljana Academy of Dramatic Arts. For 34 years, from 1945 to 1979, Ivanka was a consistent member of the Ljubljana Drama, showcasing her talent across a wide range of productions.

Following her retirement, she continued to perform, appearing on stages including the Prešeren Theatre in Kranj, the Slovene Youth Theatre, the Slovene National Theatre in Celje, and Gledališče Koper. Mežan gained recognition for her roles in the popular series Trdoglavci and established herself through portrayals of young women in both Slovenian and international classical and contemporary dramas.
