Early Morning Routines Under Scrutiny as Experts Question Trend
Millions of social media users engage with the morning routines of online influencers, but experts are raising concerns about the potential drawbacks of this increasingly popular trend. “It absolutely does not suit everyone, and the trend of waking up very early, before sunrise, has absolutely no scientific basis,” explains Dr. Leja Dolenc Grošelj from the Sleep Disorders Center.
The focus on extremely early risings, often depicted online, is prompting a reevaluation of sleep patterns. Dr. Grošelj’s comments highlight the lack of inherent benefit to waking before sunrise and emphasize the importance of aligning routines with natural circadian rhythms.
In Slovenia, this trend is being actively addressed. The nation is working to adjust school and shift schedules, currently beginning at six in the morning, to better reflect natural biological rhythms. For individuals whose schedules necessitate waking in darkness – due to work, school, or childcare – experts recommend prioritizing an earlier bedtime to ensure a minimum of seven hours of sleep.
Despite ongoing challenges, Slovene residents are still experiencing early morning awakenings, though the overall wake-up time is shifting later.
