The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reported that an analysis of three recent letters received by the family of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie indicates that the communications are fraudulent. According to a statement provided to Reuters, federal investigators have classified all the correspondence as fake. The initial two letters, which were received in February, allegedly demanded a substantial ransom for the leader’s mother.
The first of these letters was reportedly sent to a tabloid publication, specifying a ransom payment to be made in cryptocurrencies amounting to several million dollars. The second letter purported to offer information regarding the identity of the kidnappers. More recently, a third letter arrived, in which the sender claimed to possess specific knowledge about the individuals responsible for the alleged abduction.
An official from the FBI, who requested anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, confirmed the findings. “None of these letters are genuine,” the official stated. The FBI’s determination that the letters are fabricated is a key component of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance.
The agency is treating the communications as deceptive attempts, dismissing the claims made by the senders regarding the kidnappers and the ransom demands detailed within the various letters.
