Following the earthquake, authorities issued warnings regarding potential tsunami waves. Initial reports indicated waves could reach heights of up to three meters. However, the first tsunami waves observed along the coast reached approximately 70 centimeters in height.

The German press agency, dpa, reported that the event may also impact the island of Hokkaido. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has addressed the nation, calling for calm and urging residents to follow safety guidelines.
