The denial of COVID-19 by RTV: ‘Procedure unjustifiably stopped’

In November of last year, the Ljubljana District Court issued a ruling supporting the leader of a prominent covid denial group. This individual was responsible for the September 2021 incident at RTV Slovenia, during the height of the epidemic. The protesters, headed by Ladislav Troha, refused to vacate the television studio despite repeated warnings from the police.

Consequently, law enforcement was compelled to intervene. The initial court hearing acknowledged the situation as an extreme emergency and subsequently stopped the legal proceedings. The court accepted the arguments presented, recognizing the circumstances as warranting exceptional measures.

Ladislav Troha’s actions were deemed justifiable. Later, the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office formally objected to the First instance Court’s decision in December of last year. They argued against the court’s assessment of “justifiable extreme force,” a designation the court had previously acknowledged in relation to the protester’s behavior.

The prosecutor’s office viewed this assessment as legitimizing the individual’s unlawful conduct concerning the rtv premises.
