Civil Initiative Confident Following Ljubljana Referendum Decision
Ljubljana – Representatives of the civil initiative, led by Barbara Rovšek, expressed confidence following a decision to hold a referendum on a contentious city council decree. The announcement came after a series of events culminating in a formal call for a public vote. Speaking at a press conference outside Ljubljana city hall, Rovšek stated that the initiative is prepared for the next stage and anticipates a successful outcome.
The decision follows a Monday session within the Ljubljana city council, where members initially voted to withdraw the disputed decree. Subsequently, a separate, unscheduled meeting resulted in the adoption of a resolution to trigger a referendum. The civil initiative submitted its request for a referendum, gathering 14,051 signatures, on Monday at 12:50.
Notably, the mayor initially denied the request existed during a meeting seven hours later, prompting a vote to withdraw the decree. The referendum will now proceed, reflecting the significant public support garnered by the civil initiative. Organizers remain focused on securing a victory for the proposed vote.
