The book that heals fear: firefighter Sandi brings fire safety to children

Local Firefighter Inspires New Children’s Book on Fire Safety

A new children’s book, centered around a firefighter character named Sandi, is set to educate young readers on fire safety and preparedness. The story follows Nejc, a boy recovering in the hospital, who encounters Sandi and learns vital lessons about staying calm and courageous during a fire emergency. Sandi Horvat, the inspiration behind the fictional character, is a firefighter with the UKC Ljubljana Fire Brigade.

“The story is about a boy named Nejc who meets the firefighter Sandi while recovering in the hospital, and then together they discover the rules of fire safety and how to stay calm, brave, and collected in case of a fire,” Horvat explained. Colleagues describe Sandi as an ideal protagonist for the book. Ivan Marjanović, a fellow firefighter from the UKC fire brigade, stated, “I personally know Sandi for almost twenty years.

We worked together as a medical technician in our institution, then in the fire brigade, and he is a really warm person. I can say that he is a dedicated firefighter and someone who is always ready to help, whenever and to whom it is necessary.”

The book highlights the importance of fire safety knowledge and emphasizes the crucial role a firefighter, like Sandi, plays in community protection.
