Spain Experiences Record-Breaking Temperatures as Heatwave Intensifies

The Iberian Peninsula is currently experiencing significantly elevated temperatures, with readings up to 15 degrees Celsius above average for this time of year. Extreme heat has been observed across Spain, prompting warnings from meteorological agencies. Last Sunday, Gran Canaria recorded a high of 38 degrees Celsius, while Tenerife reached 36 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week across much of the country, according to reports from Spanish television Antena 3. Rubén del Campo, a spokesperson for the Spanish state meteorological agency (AEMET), indicated that temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius are expected in eastern, central, and southern Spain. He stated that these temperatures are more characteristic of June than April.

Furthermore, the western regions of Spain are facing an additional challenge with the arrival of Calima, a Saharan desert wind carrying sand. This phenomenon is creating a dense fog that contributes to the intense heat. Seville is predicted to reach up to 30 degrees Celsius today.

The unusually high temperatures, measured in degrees Celsius, are raising concerns about potential health impacts and prompting authorities to issue advisories.
