SAS is responding to rising fuel costs by implementing significant changes to its operations. According to French press agency AFP, the airline was among the initial announcements of increased ticket prices. Van der Werff, speaking to Swedish daily Dagens Industri, confirmed that SAS will cancel several hundred flights during March.
Further cancellations are anticipated following Easter, a period typically characterized by reduced air traffic volumes. These measures will ultimately impact at least a thousand flights operated by sas. The airline currently manages approximately 800 flights daily.
In March, sas primarily focused on canceling domestic flights within Norway. Cancellations also extended to Sweden and Denmark, as the airline detailed. The company stated, “In light of the current situation in the Middle East, including a sharp and sudden increase in world fuel prices, we are taking measures to bolster our financial standing.”
This strategic response aims to strengthen sas’s position amidst volatile market conditions.
The airline intends to adjust its schedule to mitigate the impact of escalating fuel expenses.
