Russia’s potential participation in the upcoming G20 summit remains uncertain despite indications of an invitation. While formal invitations haven’t been issued, a senior U.S. official confirmed Russia’s membership within the G20 and its expected inclusion in ministerial meetings and leaders’ summits.
Donald Trump stated from the Oval Office that he believed it would be “very useful” if Vladimir Putin attended, expressing a desire for dialogue with all participants. However, Trump also voiced skepticism about Putin’s willingness to accept the invitation, even if extended. The situation is further complicated by statements from Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Pankin.
He reported that the U.S. had offered an invitation “at the highest level,” emphasizing that the summit is still several months away. Pankin noted that the acceptance of the invitation remains unconfirmed.
“God knows what will happen,” he stated during an interview with Ria Novosti. The potential for Putin’s attendance at the summit remains a point of discussion as diplomatic efforts continue within the G20 framework.
