Elderly Woman Targeted in Shcemept Fraud
Šempet, Slovenia – Police are investigating a fraud incident that occurred near Šempet pri Gorica on Sunday morning. An unidentified male persuaded a senior citizen to purchase items and a container with a contents valued at approximately €250. In exchange for the goods, the woman provided several bunches of gold chrysanthemum (zlatnina).
According to Dean Božnik, a representative of the Nova Gorica Police Department, the suspect was driving a dark-colored VW Passat. The incident highlights a growing concern within the region. Božnik reiterated the importance of caution when encountering unsolicited offers of goods or services, particularly those involving valuable items like gold.
Individuals offering items such as cookware, household appliances, or other valuables in exchange for gold jewelry are often highly persuasive and may mislead potential buyers. “It’s crucial to remain vigilant and recognize that individuals offering such deals may not accurately represent the value of the items,” Božnik stated.
