He spoke with the legendary Mircea Lucescu

Mircea Lucescu, the renowned Romanian football coach, passed away on Friday at the age of 76. His death followed a heart attack suffered shortly after the conclusion of his second tenure with the Romanian national team. The initial signs of distress emerged during a representative meeting preceding a friendly match against Slovakia (0:2) on November 3rd.

Lucescu experienced symptoms and was subsequently hospitalized. Despite medical intervention, he did not recover. Lucescu’s time with the Romanian national team concluded following a disappointing qualification campaign for the World Cup, where the team lost to Turkey by a score of 0:1.

He had been appointed as head coach in August 2024. Throughout his illustrious career, Lucescu amassed an impressive record, securing 37 trophies and ranking third globally among the most successful football coaches. Medical professionals had previously advised him to reconsider his role due to ongoing health concerns.
