Robert Golob’s coalition government is facing pressure from within following a lack of engagement with the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS). According to Petr Gregorčič, Golob should prioritize a dialogue with the SDS, particularly if he accurately reflects the will of the electorate. The absence of this invitation has led to increased pressure on Nova Slovenija (NSi), which previously announced before the elections that it would not join a coalition with Golob.
Gregorčič highlighted that Jernej Vrtovec has repeatedly affirmed this stance publicly. He emphasized that cooperation with NSi to secure Golob’s mandate or establish a left-center government would be politically damaging for the party. NSi is conscious of its previous period outside parliament and seeks to avoid a similar situation.
Gregorčič stated that there are currently 43 MPs aligned with the right-wing political spectrum and 40 on the left. He indicated that the balance of power within the national assembly is a key factor in determining the political landscape.
