Poisoned baby food: police are still looking for another suspect bottle

Suspicious Poison Vials Found in Austria and Neighboring Countries

Authorities are investigating the discovery of several suspect vials containing rat poison across Austria and neighboring countries. The initial vial was seized at a Spar store in Eisenstadt, Austria, and analysis revealed it contained approximately 15 micrograms of the substance. Despite intensive efforts, another vial has not yet been located.

Police conducted a widespread search, examining hospitals, nursing homes, kindergartens, nurseries, and families with young children, but were unable to identify additional sources. The investigation extends beyond Austria, with reports made to Hungarian authorities due to the possibility the product was purchased across the border. To date, five similar suspect vials have been identified – all before they were consumed.

The precise danger posed by the amount of poison in the Eisenstadt vial remains under assessment. Toxicological analysis is ongoing to determine the potential effects of such a dose on a small child and to ascertain whether it could be fatal. The investigation is coordinated across Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, with ongoing efforts to trace the origin and distribution of these products.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
