Slovenian water polo is looking towards a promising future, according to Mirko Vičević, who believes he can play a key role in its continued development. The national team recently concluded its third consecutive participation in the European Championship in January. Recent changes in leadership, spearheaded by Zoran Stevanović as the federation’s new manager, have brought about noticeable improvements.
The team has increased its goals and begun to measure itself against international standards. A significant milestone for Slovenian water polo is the national team’s debut in the upcoming World Cup. This marks the first time Slovenia has competed in events organized by World Aquatics, formerly known as the Fédération Internationale de Natation.
“To the best of my knowledge, the national team hasn’t participated in these competitions for a considerable period,” stated former national team player and current assistant coach, Teo Galić, prior to traveling to the Mediterranean island. “Water polo in Slovenia is developing, and these events provide an opportunity for growth and improvement. For the players, this experience is undoubtedly positive, offering invaluable opportunities for development.”
