Domen Prevc ignited the crowd with a remarkable qualifying jump measuring 234.5 meters at Planica, mirroring the typical Thursday dominance of primary school students from across Slovenia. However, this impressive performance wasn’t sufficient to secure victory. Anže Lanišek, the standout skier of the season, held a 2.2-point lead as the top competitor of the winter.
Lanišek’s qualifying jump reached 211 meters, yet this was achieved from a lower position and under considerably more challenging conditions. The adverse weather proved to be the decisive factor in the outcome. The heavy snowfall had softened the landing zones, prompting the organizers to postpone the second training session.
The initial marathon series run extended over two hours. Prevc commented, “The most important thing is that the jump was ‘real’. I found the correct squat and executed the proper technique on the landing.
With favorable conditions, it would likely have gone significantly further.” The qualifying session highlighted the impact of weather on ski jumping performance.
